Dr. René Cervantes Castañeda atended medical school at the Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi were he got his medical degree with honors. Later on he performed his residency in ophthalmology at the Hospital San Jose TEC de Monterrey (Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey).

Granted to perform a vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at the Hadassah Medical Center, Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Jerusalem Israel.

After finishing his fellowship in Jerusalem he received another grant by the Harvard University to perform an ocular immunology and uveitis fellowship in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution with the prestigious Dr. C. Stephen Foster, MD, FACS, FACR.
